Submitted by Ellwood Wiggins on

Congratulations to Olivia Albiero, who is this year’s recipient of the Manfred Bansleben Award for excellence in teaching.

The Manfred Bansleben award was established by Prof. Sabine Wilke and Prof. Rick Gray in honor of Prof. Emiritus Manfred Bansleben. Prof. Bansleben was the Director of the German Language Program from 1989 until his retirement in 2009. Having built a successful language progam and trained hundreds of language teachers during his career, Manfred has always recognized the importance of teaching assistants and the many contributions they make to a language program. The award, which comes with a $1000 stipend, acknowledges one graduate student every year who has distinguished her or himself as a language teacher in our program.

This year’s recipient is Olivia Albiero, a Ph.D. candidate who has been teaching in our department for the last three years. Olivia has distinguished herself in many ways. She has received high student evaluations for many years. When you walk into her classroom, you see a very energetic, creative, thoughtful and caring language teacher. Without a doubt, you want to be a student in her class.

 Congratulations to Olivia!
