Alum Vera Pohland (MA 2013) on her Time with UW Germanics

Submitted by Ellwood Wiggins on

When I saw the poster at my former university in Germany advertising the exchange program with the University of Washington, my interest immediately was awoken. Little I did I know then how much this experience would shape me personally and professionally. It was sometimes challenging to work both as a Teaching Assistant and as a student in the MA Program, but it was a whole load of fun.

Any extensive time spent abroad will be enriching, and my one-year stay at UW really enabled me to get to know the environment in a  intimate way. I am very grateful for the experiences I made during my academic year at the Department of Germanics. The professors, the staff, and the graduate students contribute to an atmosphere that makes you feel welcomed. Without hesitation, I can recommend the program to anyone who has an urge to learn from, with, and around great people.
