This course introduces students to the basic concepts of translation, localization, and internationalization. It will cover rationales for localizing products, the history, present state and future of the industry, typical workflows, professional roles, and localization tools. Students will take the central concepts of world-readiness and localization and see how they relate to real-life situations, and they will learn what is necessary to successfully take a product from US-specific to international target markets taking cultural sensitivity, market requirements, and technical constraints into consideration.

Students will then learn about the basics of localization project management, including the creation of localization project charters and project plans, management of scope, schedule and resources, quality management and risk management.
