Course Materials:

Course Goals:

The goal of this course is to prepare Spring in Vienna students for their quarter abroad.  We will spend a good portion of our time exploring Vienna’s complex history and geography through Lonnie Johnson’s Introducing Austria and other texts in the course reader available online. We will also concern ourselves with important practical tasks in getting ready for the immersion experience in Vienna. Students will actively contribute to forming a productive learning community by researching pertinent topics and preparing brief oral presentations on a variety of subjects for the discussion in class. Students will also research practical matters related to study abroad and share their insights with the group in class. Past participants of the program will come and talk about their experiences, a representative from IPE will join us in one session, and you will have a chance to ask concrete questions about living and studying in Vienna and also about how the specific credits transfer once you are back in Seattle.
