UW Germanics Student, Libby Strickland, Wins Trip to DC

Submitted by Ellwood Wiggins on

Libby won an essay competition that was held as part of the Think Transatlantic Campus Weeks in which a UW German class participated last quarter. This campaign highlighted the importance of the transatlantic partnership between Germany and the United States and its future opportunities and chances. You can read about the achievements of this exciting project here.

“My essay was on the role of social media in globalization,” she tells us. “To be quite honest I was shocked that I won! It was a very pleasant surprise, and a fun and interesting essay to write.”

She will be participating in a nationwide conference sponsored and paid for by the German Embassy in Washington, D.C. from March 3-5.  Along with candidates from other participating universities, she will have opportunities to exchange ideas, explore the nation’s capital, and take part in a final competition with an oral presentation of her essay.

Let’s all press our thumbs and wish her Hals- und Beinbruch!
