Hayley will spend 2017-2018 studying at the Institut für Friedensforschung und Sicherheitspolitik in Hamburg, Germany. She writes:

Moin Moin!

I am currently based in Hamburg, Germany and I have accepted an offer from the IFSH - the Institut für Friedensforschung und Sicherheitspolitik (the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy) at the University of Hamburg. I am one of twenty-five international graduate students studying nuclear disarmament and arms control, counter-terrorism, and contemporary peace strategies. I hope to focus my research on how women experience war and conflict - especially forced migration such as the recent refugee crisis. Both women and men are impacted by trauma and violence, yet far too often the female experience is silenced and unrecorded.

I have also recently been appointed a position at the Model EU in Glasgow, Scotland in October. This project simulates the policy process and decision-making of the European Union with debates in the Parliament and the Council. As an American, I chose the role of journalist in order to observe the process. The simulation will center around implementation of the Paris Accords - a delicate topic for an American to weigh in on with a climate change-denying Administration threatening to pull out.

Thank you for your support and feel free to reach out at any time!

Liebe Grüße aus Hamburg,

Hayley McCord
