Matthew Spencer's (BA 2012) forthcoming book, Anecdotes by Heinrich von Kleist, will be published Fall 2021 by Seattle-based Sublunary Editions, a small press specializing in "stories, novellas, brief essays, poetry, fragments, florilegia, etc." The book includes translations of Heinrich von Kleist, specifically short fiction and anecdotes by him that appeared in the Berliner Abendblätter from 1810 to 1811.

Matthew would like to thank "the faculty at UW Germanics for introducing me to Kleist and training me to read and understand, to the best my modest ability, literary German, in particular Sabine Wilke and Rick Gray, with whom I had very enlightening discussions about Kleist, what his views on history and causality might have been, and the effect of those views had on his style."

Congratulations to Matthew on his upcoming publication!
