Jan is currently teaching and working as Coordinator in the Student Life Office at the CIEE Global Institute in Berlin. After receiving his Ph.D. in 2013, Jan taught general humanities and German courses at Seattle Central College and the University of Washington until 2015. His dissertation, "Pure Violence on the Stage of Exception: Representations of Revolutions in Georg Büchner, Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Heiner Müller, and Elfriede Jelinek," examines pertinent issues of today’s terrorism debate in frequently overlooked literature. Jan's research interests also include 20th century intellectual history and German cinema.
